About Medameek
Who are we

Our Mission
An independent organization that promotes freedom, peace, justice, democracy, human rights, and nation-building through professional media products.
Our Story
The December 2018 Sudanese revolution inspired the nation with its slogan: “Freedom, Peace, and Justice”. This cry came at the tail end of thirty years of dictatorship. Throughout the course of the revolution, and beyond it became increasingly clear that a need exists for an independent media body that supports the democratic transition and contributes to nation-building. Medameek strives to embody and promote the slogan stated by the revolutionaries. Establishing Medameek was made more urgent due to the dominance of the Sudanese media sphere by the remnants of the old regime and its proponents who continue to spread misinformation, anti-democratic, and counter-revolutionary rhetoric. The founders of Medameek are a group of activists who believe in the values of freedom, democracy, and human rights. They came to know each other years back in the midst of various campaigns aimed at bringing down the totalitarian regime. To this end, like many Sudanese women and men, they played significant roles prior to and during the revolution, particularly in areas of media and advocacy. As such, the founders were aware of the importance of the media as a vehicle to advance democratic transformation and reconstruction. Considering it part of their responsibility towards their country, the founders donate to Medameek on a monthly basis to cover its expenses.
